Der Auftrag für die neue Tate Modern in London hat das einem breiteren Publikum ebenso signalisiert wie große Ausstellungen in Tokio, New York und Paris. Unter den 32 Entwürfen sind so bekannte Bauten wie das kupferummantelte Stellwerk und das Lokomotivdepot in Basel, das Museum für die Kunstsammlung Goetz in München, die Studentenwohnheime auf dem Universitätscampus in Dijon und die Sportanlage Pfaffenholz in St. Louis. Die groß angelegte Studie Basel, eine Stadt im Werden , aber auch die Masterpläne für den Universitätscampus in Dijon oder den neuen Ortsteil Sils Cuncas im Oberengadin gehören zu den städtebaulichen Analysen, die einen Schwerpunkt des Bandes ausmachen.</P>

The Basel based architecture practice of Herzog & de Meuron incontestably holds a leading position in contemporary architecture. Their projects are distinguished by a sensitive treatment of materials for which the architects are renowned. In addition, the Pritzker Prize-winning architects have developed a topographical conception of architecture that not only locates their buildings in a larger context, but also frequently structures them as landscapes themselves. 
The four volumes published so far extensively document all their projects which were started between 1978 and 2001, and are an indispensable reference work for architects. The fifth volume of the complete works is planned for 2015/2016.
